Some photographers that i have looked at that i can personaly connect with the the CITY AND URBAN SPRAWL.
Below are two images taken by Helen Levitt. I have taken a great interest in Helen Levitts work alot of it street photography with quite an uban feel. capturing the certain characteristics of the people of the city. The photograph below imparticular i do like and a few others which are quite similar remind me of childhood and no matter where you are as a child life can always be fun. This image below is a good example.
I have taken an interest in this picture because as i look at it and there are ideas that come to mind for me to take into consideration with my City or urban sprawl photography. Sertain element that a do like in street photography and which occurs quite alot in citys, is the grafiti backgrounds and the layers and layers of posters avertising events within the city, being torn down. I will be looking for destinations such as this for my photography.
Below an image taken by Renne Burri. A fine example of a city and urban sprawl. lookin at this pictire brings to mind the seperation of the hectic and rushed life style of people who live in the city and also visit the city compared to more rural areas . I think you only come to realise this when you stop, take a seat and watch the rushing around, and really notice the goings on of the people within the city... this is somthing i will be trying out in differet areas of the city, and see what kind of shots i will get from doing so.. i think it could be very interesting.
Here an image by Robert Frank, I like this image showing the people and the background with the buildings showing that this is a city the mixed bold colours that have been caught in this photograph is another element of which i like.
An image done by Sabastiao Salgardo, i particulaly like this shot for city and urban sprawl as you can really see the movement and get a real sence of rushing around. Looking at this image gives me an idea of slowing my shutter speed down slightly to achive this, also to visit some city train stations (or tube stations) were people have reached ther desination and are rushing to their next one.
I look at this image by Walker Evans and can relate it to one of my own.
I do like both candid photographs by Walker Evans he has caught certain elements that give away city souroundings, like the one both above and below by the clothing of the people of that particular era. i think today that maybe harder to difine. which would also lead me onto ideas for my wilderness and countryside photography.
ther is definatly a sence of movement and and over crowded feel of this photograph.. in some citys and in certain areas ti think ther tends to be a lack of characters only if you look hard enough and stop to pay attention they start to apear.
